Last weekend we had fun in the snow. And its a good thing because not only is there no snow left now but this week Nathan started working a lot of overtime for the next month. (Which isn't an entirely bad thing since we are needing to replace our washer/dryer set as of this week)
Anyways, Nathan took the day off of work last Friday (we decided to go skiing kind of at the last minute - just after he took Friday off, Nathan found out about the overtime he would need to work so I was so glad that we had decided to go skiing when we did!). We headed down to Sandy Thursday night at bedtime for the kids. Friday morning Little Cottonwood canyon was closed for avalanche control. We had (finally) gotten a couple of big storms last week but because of the weird winter we have had avalanche danger is quite high anytime we get a snow storm. Nathan and I waited until the canyon opened up and then we headed to Alta for a day of skiing. My mom was awesome and watched the kids for the day. The skiing in the morning wasn't all that fun because it was snowing and the wind was blowing and it was 3 degrees, so we took lunch earlier than we normally would have. We ate at the restaurant that is mid-mountain, which was fun (though a little pricier than at the base). By the time we got done with lunch the winds had died down so it was a lot more pleasant even though it was still snowing a little. Our afternoon was a blast! We went down some ungroomed runs...and got stuck in the deep powder a few times :) It was so much fun! (It was also nice to have a long date with Nathan!)
The canyon ended up being closed during the day for a few hours because an avalanche covered the road but it was opened back up by the time we were ready to leave at 4pm. In case you are at all worried about our safety, the ski resorts do a great job with avalanche prevention so as long as you stay in the ski resort and heed to the signs posted, it is safe.
That afternoon, my dad ended up with 4 box-seats to the Jazz vs Miami Heat game that night, so Nathan, Dad and Blake went to the game while Mom, Nicole and I had a girls night. The guys had a fun time at the basketball game watching the Jazz beat the Heat by 1 point! Us girls went to Mimi's cafe for dinner and then did a little shopping. We found an adorable swimsuit for Nicole which was on clearance for under $6 - score! It was on clearance because the seam was ripped a little, but when we got back to Mom and Dad's I fixed it. You can't even tell anything was wrong with it now!
The next morning we headed back home. After the kids woke up (they both fell asleep on the way home) the 4 of us put on our snow gear. We had a blast playing in the snow and it made me wish that we had more snow to play in this year! There have only been a handful of days where there has been enough snow to play in and the last time Blake was sick.
The kids had a lot of fun being pulled by Nathan on the sled in the backyard:
We made snowballs:
It was Nicole's first time really getting to play in the snow.
Blake licking the snow:
We taught Blake how to make a snow angel:
We sledded off of a huge pile of woodchips we have:
Nicole found an icicle to suck on:
More sledding off the woodchips...and looking at the pictures now apparently we forgot to take the icicle away from Nicole before letting her sled down the hill. Oops!
Blake ate so much snow! He visited the restroom A TON that day!
Nicole and her mommy:
We went in for lunch after an hour or more of playing. Then Nathan went to help the neighbor for the afternoon, so once Nicole went down for her afternoon nap, Blake and I headed back outside. We made a huge snowman - I think that it was a little taller than me! (I took the picture from up on our deck, hence the strange angle)
We had so much fun in the snow! It warmed back up this week and now we basically have no snow left - all that is left are 2 small snowballs from the snowman. So this morning we went out and played soccer :)
